Active Is An Understatement…

Screen Shot 2015-04-01 at 7.25.50 AMEnjoy Today; Very Busy Times Coming…Let’s get the easy and good stuff out of the way first- today will feature simply stunning weather conditions across the region.  Wall-to-wall sunshine and temperatures climbing into the middle 60s after a chilly start!  Enjoy!

A warm front will lift through the state late tonight and Thursday morning. This may help ignite scattered thunderstorms early Thursday morning.  We’ll then see a “lull” in the action before additional waves of thunderstorms rumble in during the afternoon and evening.  Some of these storms may reach severe limits with hail and damaging straight line winds of greatest concern.

A secondary area of low pressure will slowly traverse the Ohio Valley Friday and deliver widespread moderate to heavy rain.  As the low scoots to our east, it’ll help pull much colder air into the area.  Temperatures will fall through the day and rain will begin to mix with wet snow Friday night.  While we won’t deal with accumulation here, areas from northern Indiana over to northern Ohio may pick up a light slushy accumulation of snow.

We’ll clear things out just in time for Saturday, but it’ll be a cool and breezy day, especially early. Most of Easter Sunday will also feature sunny and pleasant conditions, but moisture will increase late and we’ll mention the chance of showers by evening.

Early next week is back to the active regime with multiple waves of showers and thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday.  Heavy rainfall and embedded strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 2.5″ – 3.5″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Wet, Stormy, And Warm…

Those are the words to sum up the mid to long range. While we’ll deal with a brief Easter weekend cool down, the overwhelming signals in the mid to long…

Beautiful Through Wednesday Then Turning Busy…

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 9.26.22 PMEnjoy The Dry Time…A fast moving weather maker will scoot by to our northeast Tuesday morning.  This will deliver rain and snow for our friends to our east.  We’ll enjoy being on the southwest side of the track of this system and as a result we can expect lots of sunshine and seasonably warm temperatures.  Wednesday will also feature lots of sunshine.

A new storm system will approach Thursday and deliver showers and thunderstorms into the picture.  Some of the rain may be heavy at times.  Additionally, we think another wave of low pressure will keep a rather steady rain in play Friday, as well.  Temperatures will fall through the day Friday.  As of now, it appears as if it’ll be a rather damp and raw close to the work week.

An early sprinkle or snow flurry is possible Saturday, but most of the day will be dry.  Easter Sunday will dawn dry, but moisture will increase during the latter portion of the day.  We’ll introduce showers into the picture Sunday afternoon.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.25″ – 1.50″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Active And Warmer…

Screen Shot 2015-03-29 at 8.24.13 AMEvening Rain…The day has started unseasonably cold and sunny, but changes are in the offing later this afternoon.  Breezy south winds will help temperatures moderate from the very cold morning readings. In fact, if we hang onto the sunshine long enough, south winds will combine with the extra sun to allow temperatures to rise close to 50 degrees.  As it is, we anticipate increasing afternoon clouds followed by showers arriving towards mid to late afternoon. These showers may even be accompanied by an embedded rumble of thunder. Rainfall amounts won’t be heavy and most can expect to accumulate between 0.10″ to less than 0.25″.

We’ll enjoy a nice stretch of sunshine and moderating temperatures Monday through Wednesday.  A clipper system should stay well north of our region Tuesday, but if your travels take you into northeastern portions of the state or to Ohio, expect a few showers.

The next storm system of note here will arrive Thursday. A cold front will deliver showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon.

Another area of low pressure will deal a chilly rain to Indiana to wrap up the work week, but the good news in that sunshine appears to be the rule as we head into the special Easter weekend.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.00″ – 1.50″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Stormy Times Later Tonight/ Early Thursday; Much Colder To Close The Week…

Screen Shot 2015-03-25 at 10.39.34 AMBusy Times Continue…After an initial round of rain and embedded thunder moved through the region overnight and early this morning, most of today will be very quiet.  Look for a gusty southwest wind and increasing sunshine as we head into the afternoon hours.

Rain and storm chances will ramp up as we head into the nighttime hours and overnight.  A period of heavy rain and noisy thunderstorms will rumble through central Indiana after midnight into the pre dawn hours Thursday.  Additional rainfall of 1″ is a good bet tonight/ early Thursday.

MUCH colder air will quickly sweep into the region Thursday and could even allow some of the back end rain to switch to some wet snow before ending across north and northeastern portions of the area.  This won’t accumulate.

We’ll wrap the week up on a cold and wintry note.  Scattered snow showers and well below normal temperatures can be expected Friday, with dry and cold conditions Saturday.

The next weather maker will blow through Sunday in the form of a warm front.  This will spark a few showers Sunday afternoon and evening along with providing a warmer time of things early next week.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.00″ – 1.25″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: Trace

A “Don’t Blink” Kinda Weather Pattern…

Screen Shot 2015-03-23 at 9.47.25 PMLoaded Up…That’s exactly what the weather pattern is over the forecast period above.  Before we get into that, how about that snow and sleet Monday?!  Snow came down fast and furious Monday afternoon just north of the city and accumulated to the tune of a few inches across a strip of north-central Indiana.  Travel was impacted, as well.  Ah, spring in Indiana… 🙂

We’ll transition from the wintry times of Monday to thundery downpours later Tuesday and continuing through the mid week period.  A couple rounds of rain and thunderstorms can be expected Tuesday.  The first of which will arrive late Tuesday morning into the afternoon.  This will then be followed by a potentially noisy round of thunderstorms late Tuesday night into the wee morning hours Wednesday.  Most of the day Wednesday will feature dry conditions, along with a gusty SW breeze and much warmer conditions.  The atmosphere will prime itself for another round of heavy rain and strong to isolated severe thunderstorms Wednesday night into Thursday.  A cold front will finally sweep through the region Thursday morning and put an end to the rain and thunder as well as usher in a much colder regime to wrap up the work week.

As mentioned above, cold will be the word as we put a wrap on the week and head into the weekend.  In fact, enough moisture and upper level energy may be present to create snow showers Friday.  Talk about a harsh reality to Wednesday’s mid 60s.  Don’t you love the weather roller coaster this time of year?!  Cold remains firmly in place Saturday though with increasing sunshine.

As we look ahead to early next week, a warm front may lift north through the region Sunday afternoon and this could spark a light shower.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.50″ – 2.00″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: Trace – Dusting

Not A Bad Weekend Coming…

Screen Shot 2015-03-19 at 7.57.20 PMIncreasing Sunshine…Early clouds and left over light rain will give way to afternoon sunshine Friday.  All in all, a nice weekend is on the way!  We can expect a sunny, mild, and breezy Saturday, but colder conditions await for the second half of the weekend.  A dry cold front will sweep the state Saturday night and usher in a chilly Sunday.

A weak weather maker will scoot across the region Monday with a light rain or light snow shower and reinforcing chilly air.

Looking ahead, a cold front will take aim on the region Wednesday and we may be able to introduce just enough instability to promote an embedded thunderstorm as the boundary sweeps through the state.  Cooler, showery weather can be expected Thursday.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.50″ – 1.00″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: Trace

Clouds Slowly On The Increase…

Screen Shot 2015-03-18 at 9.34.52 AMClouds Increase; Light Rain Thursday…The day is off to a much colder start, but also a sunny one.  Mid and high level cloudiness will slowly be on the increase as we progress through the day and these clouds will give way to some light rain Thursday.  The culprit?  An area of low pressure passing to our south.  Enough cold air will be in place to create a transition to some wet snow across northeastern portions of the state late Thursday night into early Friday morning.

The area will enjoy a southwesterly air flow and associated milder air mass for the first part of the weekend, but a cold front will pass Saturday night and usher in a colder Sunday.

A fast moving storm system will scoot through central Indiana Monday and team up with the colder air in place to lead to a mixture of cold rain and wet snow.  Precipitation amounts will be light with this system.  We’re back to a dry, chilly theme Tuesday.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: Trace
  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.10″-0.25″

Quiet Weather Pattern, But Cooler…

Screen Shot 2015-03-16 at 9.56.35 PMCooler, But Dry Pattern…Monday was an absolutely gorgeous day!  Unfortunately those picture-perfect conditions won’t last as a dry cold front passes early Tuesday.  This will usher in a cooler and breezy St. Patrick’s Day, but nothing too terribly cold.  Dry and chilly conditions remain Wednesday.

A southern storm system will draw close enough Thursday to increase our cloud cover along with a sprinkle or light shower.  This won’t be a big deal.

The next item of note will be another mostly dry frontal passage Saturday night.  Enough southerly flow will be in place Saturday to send temperatures into the lower 60s before the much colder air arrives Saturday night.  This will set us up for a cold second half of the weekend.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: Trace to less than 0.10″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″
