Gorgeous Weekend; Humidity Returns Next Week…

Highlights:

  • Beautiful weekend dialed up
  • Humidity returns
  • Scattered storms late week

Refreshing Conditions Continue…A cold front settled south of the region last night, allowing drier and slightly cooler air to filter in during the overnight.  That sets the stage for the weekend as we can expect dry and refreshing conditions, along with below average temperatures.

Dry skies will continue into the new work week, but humidity will slowly begin to increase once we get to midweek.  A southwesterly air flow will develop ahead of our next storm system that will deliver scattered thunderstorms by Thursday.  Shower and thunderstorm chances will continue Friday morning, however, early indications suggest next weekend is also dry.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 0.25″ – 0.75″

Cool August:  The month has opened impressively cool with a CONUS average anomaly of – 2.75° through the 10th.  More specifically to Indianapolis, we’re running 3° below normal through the 11th.

Scattered Storm Chances Return…

Highlights:

  • Scattered t-storm chances return
  • Mostly dry, pleasant weekend
  • Rain chances return early next week

Frontal Boundary Moves In Friday…Another sunny, pleasant late-summer day is on tap before a cold front approaches late tonight. This frontal boundary will be responsible for creating scattered thunderstorms Friday across central IN.  Current indications suggest rain won’t be widespread or particularly heavy, but don’t be surprised by a local downpour or two as we wrap up the work week.

Dry and pleasant weather will return over the weekend, complete with plentiful sunshine.  Our next storm system approaches Sunday night into Monday with the potential of more widespread rain.  With that said, there’s considerable model disagreement with regard to overall rain coverage and amounts Monday (European is the most aggressive with widespread rain).  We’ll go with a blend of the two for now (scattered thunderstorm chances) and hope for better agreement later today.  We’ll provide updates after taking a good look at 12z data.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 0.50″ – 1.00″

Considerable Cloudiness To Open The Work Week…

Highlights:

  • Mostly cloudy start to the work week
  • Another cold front moves in
  • Turning cooler late in the weekend

Comfortable Late-Summer Week Ahead…Talk about a bust of a Sunday forecast on our part.  Dry air and lack of forcing resulted in steady rains remaining across southern parts of the state.  With the exception of a couple of brief showers, central and northern portions of the state remained dry most of the day.

While we’ll remain with mostly cloudy skies today, most of the region will once again remain free of any rain.  The exception will be across southeastern Indiana where steady rains have been falling this morning.  That will continue to move east into Ohio as we push forward.  Otherwise, drier air will arrive tonight and set the stage for increasing sunshine Tuesday and Wednesday.  With low humidity and below normal temperatures, both days will be great to spend time outdoors, or perhaps a trip to the Indiana State Fair is in order?

Moisture will begin to return by Thursday and with an approaching cold front, scattered showers and thunderstorms will be with us through the weekend.  As of now, most widespread storm coverage is expected late Saturday into Sunday morning.  We’ll turn significantly cooler than normal (yet again) early next week.

Tropics:  As expected in August into September, the tropics are turning increasingly active.  This morning, Tropical Storm Franklin continues to grab headlines as he is becoming more organized and positioned to impact the Yucatan today through Wednesday.  From there, Franklin is anticipated to move into the southern Gulf of Mexico Wednesday.  With very warm waters and a low shear environment, Franklin should strengthen yet again before making a second landfall late in the work week along the east-central Mexican coast.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 0.50″ – 1.00″

This Is August?!

Highlights:

  • Fall-like feel to close the week
  • Weekend shower chances
  • Unseasonably refreshing pattern

Early October Or Early August?!  A cold front will sweep through the state Friday morning.  A line of showers and embedded thunder will accompany the FROPA (frontal passage) before a dramatic wind shift to the northwest.  Unseasonably cool air will filter into central Indiana Friday afternoon and keep most in the upper 60s (69° is our average high October 5th).  Just remarkable stuff for the first Friday in August…

A cool, crisp start Saturday will pave way for comfortable afternoon conditions under mixed clouds and sun.  Flipping the page to the second half of the weekend, we’re going to have to hit the rain chance a little harder with this forecast update, including a rather overcast day.  Periodic showers will keep temperatures well below normal.

Early showers will be with us Monday before a drier air mass builds into the state for the midweek stretch.  Additionally, reinforcing cool air will flow in here Monday night and set the stage for simply gorgeous conditions around these parts next week.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 0.50″ – 1.00″

Big Changes Loom…

Highlights:

  • Wet and stormy at times to close the work week
  • Much cooler air ahead
  • Pleasant weekend on deck

Summer Weather Gives Way To An Early Fall Feel…Seasonably warm and humid conditions will help power widely scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms again Wednesday.  More widespread showers and thunderstorms will arrive Thursday evening into early Friday as a cold front sweeps through the state.  Winds will shift around to the northwest and turn gusty Friday afternoon, helping usher in an unseasonably cool air mass for the first Friday of August.  This cooler regime will remain with us through the weekend.  A quick-moving light shower is possible over the weekend, but most of the area will remain rain-free with mixed clouds and sun.

Temperatures will remain below seasonal norms early next week (and really throughout the majority of the first half of August) with scattered rain chances returning to our forecast.  Looking beyond the current 7-day period shows our next storm system of significance approaching mid-to-late next week.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall:  0.00″
  • Rainfall:  0.50″ – 1.00″ (locally heavier amounts)

Unsettled Weather Returns; Feeling Like Late September By The Weekend…

Highlights:

  • Dry start to the work week
  • Shower and storm chances return
  • Much cooler by the weekend

Welcome To A New Work Week…As we open the new work week, we’ll continue to deal with the same weather pattern that provided us the delightful weather over the weekend.  High pressure will grudgingly give up control Tuesday into Wednesday with moisture returning.  Initially, coverage of showers will be “spotty” at best, but better coverage of showers and thunderstorms will return as we progress into midweek.  Thursday appears to be the wettest day as a cold front pushes closer to the region.

That cold front will sweep through the state Friday morning and result in a MUCH cooler air mass filtering into the region as we close the work week and head into the weekend.  While we’ll certainly notice the much cooler air, we have to maintain mention of a passing shower over the weekend thanks to lingering upper level energy.  Despite scattered showers around the region, most of the weekend will be rain-free.  The bigger story will be the late-September like air over the weekend.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 0.50″ – 1.00″

Refreshing Last Weekend Of July…

Highlights:

  • Wall-to-wall sunshine
  • Comfortable temperatures
  • Rain chances return
  • Even cooler next weekend

Can’t Beat This Weather…The short-term is very simple.  High pressure will dominate our pattern through early next week and result in very refreshing conditions.  With a north-northeast flow in place, unseasonably cool and dry air will continue to flow into the region through the weekend.  Get out and enjoy it!

Temperatures will slowly moderate heading into mid week and moisture will return ahead of a cold front Wednesday into Thursday. Greatest overall rain coverage should arrive on the scene Thursday, including chances of thunderstorms.  Similar to this week, the cold front will pass Thursday night/ Friday morning and result in a drier ending to the work week.  An early look at next weekend shows another anomalous trough digging into the Mid West.  The end result will likely be temperatures that are even cooler than this weekend.  Mid-upper 70s for highs, perhaps?!

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall:  0.50″ – 1.00″

Heavy Rain And Storms Thursday; Phenomenal Weekend Ahead…

Highlights:

  • Turning more humid this afternoon
  • Heavy rain Thursday
  • Cooler and drier weekend ahead

Heavy Rain Tomorrow…Wednesday is getting off to a pleasant and beautiful start across the Hoosier state.  Sunshine will be with us throughout the day, but our pleasant air mass that we’re awaking to will grow increasingly moist this afternoon and evening.  Our next storm system approaches late tonight and will help push widespread rain and thunderstorms across the state early Thursday morning.  With such high water content in our air mass, expect periods of heavy rain across the region.  Localized flooding will result.

The trade off to the wet and stormy Thursday will be an incredible weekend.  Despite a few lingering showers Friday, we’ll notice a dramatic drop in humidity Friday night and this will set the stage for a refreshing last weekend of July.  In fact, temperatures will grow cool enough both Saturday and Sunday mornings to perhaps trigger a feel of early autumn for some.  Plentiful sunshine can be expected along with unseasonably low dew points with a northeasterly flow in place.

Temperatures and moisture levels will slowly increase as we get into early next week.  With the increasing humidity, expect increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms towards the middle of next week.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 2.00″ – 3.00″

Now This Is More Like It…

Highlights:

  • Less humid air builds in
  • Mid-week storms
  • Refreshing weekend

Pleasant Open To The Work Week…High pressure will build overhead today and result in a dry open to the work week.  A surface front moved south through the region late last night and north winds will help drier air continue to build in as we move through the day.  By this evening, we’ll really feel the more refreshing brand of air.

We’ll remain rain-free through Tuesday before our next cold front approaches late Wednesday into Thursday.  Most of Wednesday will remain dry, as well, but we’ll mention chances of a late night thunderstorm arriving from the northwest.  Better overall coverage of showers and thunderstorms can be expected Thursday.

Timing is our friend this go around as the front passes Thursday evening, allowing a much drier and cooler air mass to build in.  Considering this is the last weekend of July, it’ll feel very, very pleasant.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 0.50″ – 1.00″

Periods Of Storms Interrupt An Otherwise Hot, Humid Regime…

Highlights:

  • Periods of storms
  • Heat and humidity makes things uncomfortable
  • Drier early next week

Mother Nature Calls…Many awoke early this morning as a complex of thunderstorms rumbled southeast into central Indiana.  Some local rain gauges are already registering 2″+ across the region.  Eventually, we think clouds will thin enough later today to allow temperatures to zoom close to 90°.  Factor in the moisture-rich nature of our air mass and heat indices will approach 105° later this afternoon.

We’ll keep mention of scattered storms this evening and while most of the daytime Saturday looks dry, we’ll have to keep a close eye on Saturday night as models try to deliver another round of storms into central Indiana.  Ingredients will be in place for the potential of severe thunderstorms Saturday night, with damaging winds being the biggest concern from a severe perspective.

A frontal boundary will push south and we’ll finally begin to see humidity levels fall as we close the weekend and open next week.  It’ll feel very refreshing during the Monday-Tuesday stretch.

Heat, humidity, and storm chances return by the middle of next week.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 1″ – 3″
