Warm; Sun-Filled Weekend…High pressure will anchor itself over the eastern Great Lakes and remain close enough to our region to supply continued sunny skies and dry conditions.  We’ll also continue to enjoy a much warmer than normal feel of things (normal highs this time of year are in the lower 70s).  Enjoy, because this time next week will look and feel MUCH different…

On Cruise Control…No reason to waste many pixels on the early and mid week stretch.  Dry skies and warm air will be the rule up until Friday.

Strong Autumn Cold Front…A strong cold front will move into the area Friday and crash our perfect weather party.  Look for increasing clouds Thursday along with showers and thunderstorms Friday.  Temperatures will crash behind the boundary and set up a weekend that feels more like November than October.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.50″ – 0.75″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Closing Out The Work Week On A Beautiful Note…High pressure will remain in firm control of our weather as we put a wrap on the work week.  After a chilly open to the week, temperatures will moderate closer to seasonal levels today and above normal levels late week, continuing into early next week.  Lots of sunshine will remain locked into your forecast picture.

Moisture Slowly Returns…Moisture will slowly return as we progress into early next week.  Most, if not all, of Monday should be dry, but we’ll include the chance of an isolated shower.  Scattered shower chances continue Tuesday.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.10″-0.25″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Are you a fan of winter weather? Just for fun this morning we thought we’d show you the latest JAMSTEC seasonal forecast that’s hot off the press.  This implies plenty of “fun and games” if you’re a snow and cold fan… More details ahead as we progress deeper into fall.

Tranquil Autumn Weather…A prolonged stretch of dry weather is on tap as we open a new work week.  While we’ll start the week off on an unseasonably cool note, temperatures will moderate back to seasonal levels by mid week and above normal levels heading into next weekend.  The next chance of rain won’t arrive until late Sunday and even that is not a good chance (not worth even mentioning in the forecast above just yet).

For all of you fall foliage fans out there, the combination of early cool air through September combined with the extended stretch of dry, sunny days has led to an early start to the color show.  With continued tranquil weather expected, anticipate ideal conditions for continued increased color in the days and weeks ahead.

Storms To Our Northwest This Morning…A complex of showers and embedded thunderstorms is moving into extreme northwest portions of the state this morning.  We have a very dry and stable air mass in place locally and these storms will weaken as they continue to sag southeast.  Most will remain rain-free today, but some light rain will be possible across northwestern and north-central portions of the state later this morning. (NOT a big deal).

Severe; Heavy Rain Threat Wednesday…A strong cold front will push into central Indiana Wednesday night. A warm and humid air mass will be in place and as the front moves through the region, widespread showers and thunderstorms will move over the area.  Locally heavy rainfall will be likely and embedded strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible.  Damaging wind and hail is our biggest concern, but a quick spin-up tornado can’t be ruled out.  We target Wednesday evening and nighttime for greatest chances of thunderstorms across our immediate area.

MUCH Cooler…An October-like air mass will filter into the region late week and as we go into the weekend.  A reinforcing shot of cool air will arrive Saturday with a passing shower possible.  Hope you’re ready for some true fall-like weather!

7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.50″ – 2″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Hopefully you had a chance to see the last ‘super moon’ of the year last night.  John Salewicz and Brian Jessen caught the super moon in Zionsville (top) and Brownsburg (bottom).  Thanks, guys!

Beautiful Open To The Work Week…Canadian high pressure will remain in control of our weather as we open up the new work week. Look for plentiful sunshine and seasonably cool temperatures.

Humidity Builds; Severe Chances Wednesday…Tuesday will be a transition day between the cooler, drier feel from the weekend and a briefly warmer and much more humid regime for mid week.

An isolated shower is possible Tuesday, but most communities will remain rain-free.  Our focus will remain on Wednesday as a severe weather episode is possible.  A strong autumn cold front will slice into a warm, humid, and unstable air mass Wednesday afternoon and strong to severe thunderstorms will erupt.  All modes of severe weather will be in play Wednesday and we target the afternoon into the evening for the best chances of severe.  Locally heavy rainfall is also a good bet.  We’ll have more details on timing and threats as we move forward.

Unseasonably Chilly…A late October-like air mass will invade as we wrap up the work week and head into the weekend.  Jackets and sweat shirts will be needed as temperatures fall to levels more than 15 degrees below normal.  Dry and crisp air will remain in place through the weekend.

7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.5″ – 2″

Dry Time…Sun-filled days can be expected after morning fog burns off across outlying areas both today and Thursday.  Temperatures will be a touch above normal.

Friday Night Storms Ahead Of Big Cool Down…A cold front will pass the state early Saturday.  Ahead of this front, a line of strong to severe storms will be possible Friday night.  We’ll fine tune timing as we progress through the next day or two.  A blast of much cooler, drier air will then pour into the state over the weekend.  It’ll feel very much like fall around these parts…

Next Rain Maker…We’ll enjoy another dry and seasonably cool couple days before our next potentially significant rain maker gears up for the middle of next week.  Both the GFS and European forecast models are hinting this could be a significant rain maker, but caution this is still early and fine tuning will be required.

7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.50″ – 1.00″

Frontal Boundary Leads To Better Shower And Storm Coverage…A cold front will slip through central Indiana later this evening. This will be a focal point in better coverage of showers and thunderstorms today, especially this afternoon and evening.  Locally heavy downpours can be expected though rainfall amounts won’t be uniform (rarely are this time of year).

The boundary will move just south of the region Wednesday before stalling out. It’ll remain close enough to maintain mention of scattered thunderstorms into your mid week forecast with a drier forecast Thursday.  Temperatures will slip backwards a couple of notches and humidity values will improve to a degree mid week.

Stormy Times Return…After a somewhat drier time of things mid week, unsettled times will return late week into the Labor Day weekend. No all day rains are anticipated, but there will be periods of storminess into and through the weekend.

7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.50″-2.00″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

We received a couple colorful sunrise pictures this morning from Boone County, highlighted by cloud shots from storms ongoing to our north.  Thanks to John (T) and Paul (B) for these great photos this morning!

Evening Shower Chance…A frontal boundary will push through the region this evening and while moisture will be limited overall, don’t be surprised by an increase in cloudiness and an isolated shower as the front moves through. Overall, we’re looking at a beautiful day, along with continued below normal temperatures.

Nice Late Week Stretch…The late week stretch will be dominated by high pressure and slowly moderating temperatures.  We’ll start well below normal, but temperatures will creep back to seasonable levels over the weekend.

Unsettled Times Ahead…More unsettled times are ahead late in the weekend into next week. We still have details to iron out, but we’ve introduced rain into the forecast as early as Sunday.  Some of the rain may become heavy at times early next week. Stay tuned.

7-Day Precipitation Outlook:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.50″-1.00″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Forecast Updated: 03.15.14 @ 8:53a

Nice Today; MUCH Colder Sunday. . .Today will easily be the pick of the weekend as mostly sunny skies dominate along with seasonable temperatures.  Get outside and enjoy!

We continue to watch a southern storm system for the second half of the weekend and while model data trended north Thursday, the common theme most of Friday into this morning has been back south.  As such, we’ll lean towards a less snowy forecast Sunday for central Indiana, but note if you have travel plans to the southern third of the state that accumulating snow and ice will greet you Sunday.  Here across central Indiana look for a rather cloudy and MUCH colder day.  In fact, temperatures won’t even make it to the freezing mark with a very strong east to northeast wind in play.  Winds may gust as high as 35 MPH Sunday afternoon, making it feel like the single digits and teens.

Relatively Quiet Week. . .Modeling continues to struggle with the timing and strength of storm systems in the week ahead, but current thinking takes the storm track primarily north of our area next week, meaning less impact (from rain or snow chances) here.  We caution that this can change and we’ll keep a close eye on things, but we’re trending our forecast towards a quieter one for now.  The next system of note will be a fast moving low pressure area and associated cold front that will pass here Tuesday into Wednesday.  A scattered shower and wind shift will occur with this system, but, as stated above, the majority of the more significant “weather” will lie to our north.

A brief warming trend to well above normal temperatures may carry us to close out the work week before the next systems eyes our area later next weekend.
