Turning Stormy Later Tonight…

Screen Shot 2016-03-12 at 7.59.37 AMHighlights:

  • Turning stormy this weekend
  • Warm open to the week
  • Active times give way to a colder finish to the week

Thunderstorms Develop Tonight…A warm front is lifting through the state this morning and this could spark a few showers as it passes through central IN through the late morning hours.  Most of today will be dry before heavier rains and embedded thunderstorms push into the region tonight into Sunday morning.  By the way, don’t forget to set those clocks ahead an hour tonight ;-).

Rather unsettled weather will continue through the early and middle portions of the work week, but we caution timing is still up in the air.  It’s an active regime that will require fine tuning.  As things stand now, we forecast scattered showers and storms Monday and a mostly dry Tuesday.  Gusty SW winds will pull anomalous warmth into the region Tuesday before storms blow into the state late Tuesday night/ Wednesday.  This is in association with a cold front that will have things feeling much cooler around these parts to close the work week.

7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 1.25″ – 1.75″ (locally heavier totals)

Heavier Rain Builds In Tonight…

Screen Shot 2016-03-09 at 7.25.48 AMHighlights:

  • Heavier rains arrives on scene tonight-Thursday
  • Dry, nice close to the work week
  • Weekend rain and storm return
  • Very warm early next week

Good Sleeping Weather Tonight…Today will offer up scattered showers, but it’s really tonight through Thursday afternoon that has us focused for most widespread and heavier rain (along with embedded thunder).  This is the first of two “slugs” of moisture that will provide hefty rain totals between now and early next week.  The second surge of moisture will arrive late Saturday into the day Sunday.  The trade off?  An absolutely beautiful close to the work week.

Once we shake the rain early next week, we’ll really crank the thermometer.  We expect middle 70s next Tuesday across most of central IN.  We caution though that colder times loom around March 20th.  Don’t put away the winter gear just yet…

7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 2.00″ – 2.50″ (locally heavier totals)

Warm Pattern Turns Increasingly Wet…

Screen Shot 2016-03-08 at 7.21.34 AMHighlights:

  • Warm, mostly dry Tuesday
  • Rain builds in mid week
  • Weekend questions

Enjoy Today’s Sun…Today looks to be the pick of the week, including mostly dry conditions and temperatures that will feel more like April.  Find a way to get out and enjoy it!

Moisture will surge northeast into the region during the day Wednesday and a wavy front will sag south into the area to close the work week.  The combination of a deep moisture transport out of the Gulf will help ignite locally heavy downpours.  While questions are certainly there in regards to timing, we’re leaning more towards the optimistic side of things with this update…thinking enough dry air may invade the area for a mostly dry Saturday.  This is an, admittedly, low confidence forecast.

Regardless of whether or not we can enjoy a mostly dry start to the weekend, moisture will stream back into the area for the second half of the weekend.  Heavy rain and embedded thunder looks likely Sunday.

7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 2.00″ – 2.50″

Brighter Sunday; Warm, Wet Period Coming…

Screen Shot 2016-03-05 at 9.28.01 AMHighlights:

  • Pick of the weekend is Sunday
  • Warm, breezy, and wet week ahead
  • Timing heavy rain

Mostly Cloudy Today; Brighter Sunday…A weak disturbance scooted through the region overnight and lead to a quick “pop” of mixed rain/ snow.  As expected, this wasn’t a big deal.  We’ll keep clouds around today, but introduce more in the way of sunshine Sunday (after morning fog).

A warmer SW flow will develop in the new week ahead and help transport much warmer air into the region, but this will also lead to an increasingly wet pattern.  Spotty early week showers will give way to more widespread and heavier rains for the middle of the week.  Timing is up in the air, but there’s the chance we get into some briefly drier air Thursday PM, but we caution it won’t last long as a new surge of moisture arrives to close the work week.  We’ll also introduce thunder chances to wrap up the work week.

Slushy Snow Late Tonight For Some…

Screen Shot 2016-03-02 at 7.32.36 AMHighlights:

  • Cold, dry midweek
  • Snow changes to rain for central IN Thursday morning
  • Much warmer times coming

Slushy Snow Late Tonight For Some…It’s a much colder feel out the door this morning!  You’ll want the heavier coat.  The good news? Dry conditions today, including lots of sunshine.

Our next fast moving storm system will spread snow into central IN during the overnight (after midnight for most) and accumulate for some (snowfall forecast below).  For the city, itself, look for a slushy coating to 1″.  Further north, a band of 1″-3″ is expected before the transition to rain mid to late morning.  Northern IN will be the “winner” with this system, including a 3″-5″ band.  All precipitation will be to our east by Thursday evening.

A dry close to the work week is expected before another fast moving storm system deliver a sprinkle Saturday, but this just doesn’t look to be a big deal at the moment.  We’ll keep an eye on things.

We turn much warmer early next week, but clouds and showers may keep us from being as warm as we could’ve been otherwise.  Better rain and storm chances arrive late Tuesday.  A stiff southwest wind will be with us early next week.

Busy Pattern This Week…

Screen Shot 2016-02-29 at 7.32.39 AM

Highlights:

  • Increasing sunshine today
  • Rain/ embedded thunder end as snow Tuesday
  • Accumulating mid week snow

Busy Pattern This Week…After a windy and warm Sunday, a thin band of showers and embedded thunder moved through central IN last night.  This was in association with a weak frontal boundary that will provide a dry start to the work week.  Despite a cloudy start, sunshine should quickly develop as clouds decrease.

Quiet times won’t last long as our next storm system delivers showers and thunderstorms Tuesday.  Colder air will quickly punch in here Tuesday afternoon and evening helping precipitation transition to wet snow before ending.  We think the significant accumulations will remain north of central IN, but we’re keeping a close eye on things, nonetheless.  Expect an evening update.

Busy times remain in the mid week period as a wave of low pressure spreads widespread snow across the area Thursday.  Early indications would suggest this may be a plowable snow for some of the region.

As it stands now, moderating conditions and increasing sunshine are expected heading into next weekend.  Longer term, a big ridge should develop across the area later next week.  It’s a pattern supportive of anomalous warmth to the tune of 75-80 degrees….

Nice Finish To The Weekend; Mid Week Storm Brewing…

Screen Shot 2016-02-21 at 10.39.59 AMHighlights:

  • Beautiful finish to the weekend
  • Mid week storm brewing with many questions
  • Snow potential for some
  • Colder pattern developing

Nice Finish To The Weekend; Mid Week Storm Brewing…A disturbance responsible for overnight/ early morning thunderstorms and heavy rain across southern IN is tracking east.  Drier air is working in now and we’ve dialed up a beauty of a close to the weekend across central IN.

The work week will get started on a quiet note, but trouble is brewing for mid week as a big storm system lifts out of the southern Plains and into the lower Ohio Valley.  We forecast a lowering and thickening cloud deck Tuesday followed by rain developing.  As colder air gets pulled into the system, rain will begin to transition to a heavy, wet snow across portions of the area.  Exactly who sees the transition and when remain in question and will have to be fine tuned as time goes along.  That said, the potential is there for a heavy, wet snow “thump” across a portion of our area.  Stay tuned.

This storm will set things into a much colder and rather active time to close the work week and head into next weekend.

Stormy Evening…

Screen Shot 2016-02-02 at 7.24.07 AMHighlights:

  • Strong to severe storms this evening
  • Rain and snow showers Wednesday
  • Dry and chilly to wrap up the work week
  • Nice weekend ahead
  • MUCH colder next week

Stormy Evening…Tuesday is dawning nice and quiet with dry and chilly conditions in place.  A bit of fog has been reported just west and north of the city.  The quiet times will give way to a bumpy ride by this evening as a warm front passes, allowing a strong SW breeze to boost temperatures close to 60 (after dark high).

Scattered showers will develop this afternoon, but it’s the evening hours that we bracket (between 4-10p west to east) for the potential of strong to severe storms.  Some of these storms will be capable of damaging winds, and even a quick spin-up tornado can’t be ruled out.  Have a way to get the latest weather information this evening.

We turn cooler Wednesday with lingering moisture falling in the form of mixed rain and snow showers.  This won’t be a big deal.

Dry times will be with us to end the week and rumble into the Super Bowl weekend, with moderating temperatures.  The moderating trend won’t last long as models continue to suggest an arctic blast looms next week.  To go along with that cold, snow chances will also come.
