Busy Week Of Weather…

Highlights:

  • Sunny open to the work week
  • Midweek storms
  • Storm chances remain for the long race and holiday weekend ahead

Pleasant Open To The Work Week…High pressure will support dry and pleasant weather conditions as we open up the work week. Expect plentiful sunshine and comfortable conditions to spend time outdoors today!  Enjoy!

Unsettled weather will return for midweek as low pressure moves into the Ohio Valley.  Scattered showers Tuesday will increase in overall coverage and intensity Wednesday, including the potential of locally heavy rainfall.  With all of the clouds and rain around through midweek, temperatures will run significantly below average.

Thankfully, we’ll get a breather Friday, with a mostly dry day expected.  We’ll turn the temperature up a couple notches heading into the long race and Memorial Day weekend.  Additionally, expect an increasingly muggy feel with scattered thunderstorms returning to the forecast this weekend.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall:  1.50″ – 2.00″

Scattered Storm Chances Through Sunday Morning; Much Cooler Next Week…

Highlights:

  • Scattered storm chances continue
  • Much cooler next week
  • Midweek showers return

Watching For Afternoon And Evening Storms…We’re starting the day with low clouds, fog, and a chilly easterly breeze.  That said, a warm front will begin to lift north this afternoon, allowing a warmer and increasingly muggy feel to return.  Scattered thunderstorms will also increase in overall coverage later this afternoon and evening.  While widespread heavy rains aren’t anticipated, localized heavy downpours are possible in slower moving, stronger storms.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain Sunday morning, but a cold front will pass around lunchtime with drier air arriving by the afternoon hours.  If you have plans outdoors Sunday, the afternoon and evening looks absolutely beautiful with a more pleasant air mass building in with those drier conditions.

Unsettled conditions return Tuesday into Wednesday with unseasonably cool air.  As of now, the early outlook for the big race weekend and Memorial Day holiday is a dry one, with just a scattered shower chance Saturday.  Stay tuned.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 0.50″ – 1.00″ (Locally heavier amounts)

Unsettled Stretch Of Weather Ahead…

Highlights:

  • Scattered storms
  • Turning cooler next week
  • Continued unsettled

Periods Of Storms In The Days Ahead…While we’ll have more dry time than not into the weekend, multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms can be expected as we close the work week and move into the weekend.  With a moisture-rich air mass in place, locally heavy rain is possible.  Storms will reach most widespread coverage during the afternoon and evening hours through Saturday.

A cold front will sweep through the state Sunday with scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms followed by drier, cooler air for Monday.

As we progress through next week, the region will remain in a much cooler, challenging northwest flow.  Individual disturbances will race southeast and result in continued unsettled weather as race weekend and the Memorial Day holiday draws closer.  We’ll keep a very close eye on things.  The balance of next week will be significantly cooler than average.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 1.50″ – 2.00″

Beautiful Memorial Day Weather…

Screen Shot 2016-05-30 at 8.46.39 AMHighlights:

  • Sunny, warm Memorial Day
  • Scattered storms mid week
  • Cooler late in the forecast period

Sunscreen and Sunglasses needed…High pressure will supply plenty of sunshine for Memorial Day.  While it’ll be warm, it’ll be a little less humid than the past few days.  All-in-all, it’ll be a great day to be outdoors.  Enjoy it!

A cold front will move closer to the region come midweek and tap into available Gulf moisture to create a good chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms Wednesday PM into Thursday.

Come late week, modeling differs on the precise details.  For now, we’re leaning towards a cooler, unsettled look.  Fine tuning will be required as we move forward.

7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: 0.00″
  • Rainfall: 0.25″-0.75″

Better Chance Of Afternoon/ Evening Storms Today; Big Cool Down Looming…

Screen Shot 2016-05-28 at 7.59.13 AMHighlights:

  • Scattered PM storms fire up
  • Warm, humid, but mostly dry race day and Memorial Day
  • Big cool down looming

Better Coverage Of PM Storms…A warm, humid, and increasingly unstable air mass will be present today.  Throw in a couple weak upper level disturbances lifting through the region and we should see a better coverage of afternoon/ evening thunderstorm activity when compared to the past couple days.  Some locally heavy rainfall will be possible.

Thankfully, aerial coverage of showers and storms will diminish Sunday and Memorial Day, itself.  We’ll maintain mention of an isolated to widely scattered storm.  Conditions will remain warm and humid.

Our next best chance of rain and storms will push in Thursday.  This is in association with a cold front.  Behind this cold front, expect a big push of refreshing, unseasonably cool air to blow into town to close the work week.  Temperatures grow cooler next weekend (lows at night in the 40s are possible).

Warm And Humid; More Dry Time Than Stormy…

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 8.56.28 PMHighlights:

  • Scattered storms into the weekend
  • Isolated storm coverage Sunday-Monday, but drier overall
  • Scattered storms return mid week

Not A Bad Forecast…The overall theme with tonight’s forecast package is warm and humid.  While scattered thunderstorms will remain in our forecast Friday and Saturday, overall coverage of thunderstorm activity will diminish Sunday-Monday (isolated coverage both days).  From this distance, the Indy 500 weather looks nice- just an isolated storm threat and quite warm.  Widespread rain totals should remain below half an inch through the weekend, but we caution that locally heavier totals will certainly be possible (though it’s impossible to be precise where exactly those heavier showers and storms track).

Drier times will greet us as we return to work Tuesday, but we’ll be eyeing an approaching late week cold front by this time.  This front will present our next chance of widespread shower and thunderstorm activity, along with a transition to a much cooler air mass just beyond the forecast period.

Turning Much More Humid…

Screen Shot 2016-05-24 at 9.16.34 PMHighlights:

  • Oppressive feel develops
  • Scattered storms to close the week
  • Less storm coverage for the 500 and Memorial Day

Ready To Sweat?  A much more humid and oppressive feel will develop Wednesday (dew points likely surge to 70 by afternoon).  Along with the muggy air mass, we expect scattered showers and embedded thunderstorms to develop.  We’ll maintain mention of scattered storms into the weekend, but want to stress that these won’t be uniform in the least.  That said, with all of the moisture in the air, stronger storms will be capable of producing locally heavy rainfall.

We continue to keep a close eye on the data for Sunday and Monday.  Thankfully, latest indications suggest we see an overall decrease in aerial coverage of showers and storms both days.  We’ll call it “isolated” for now.  It’ll be plenty hot and humid.
