Happy Weekend…

Screen Shot 2015-12-04 at 10.01.21 PMHighlights:

  • Freezing Fog
  • Tracking Two Upper Air Disturbances
  • Mild Finish To Next Week

In the short-term, “dirty” high pressure will remain in control of our weather as we welcome in the weekend.  We label this a “dirty” high as a local inversion has resulted in plenty of low clouds and fog over the past couple days, despite high pressure being overhead.  Unfortunately,  the weekend will get off to a similar gloomy, foggy start.  With temperatures below freezing overnight and Saturday morning, areas of freezing fog can once again be anticipated.  Take it slow if you must be out and about early Saturday.  We keep our fingers crossed that we’ll be able to mix things up just enough to allow for at least some sunshine come afternoon.

The upcoming week will feature two upper air disturbances tracking across the state.  One comes Monday and the second arrives Wednesday.  Both will offer up an increase in cloudiness and a light shower chance.

Once we get to late next week, a southwesterly air flow will take control and pump unseasonably warm air into the Mid West and Ohio Valley.  The mild air will be out ahead of an approaching storm system next weekend and we still anticipate changes as we progress into mid month…

Winter’s Back!

Screen Shot 2015-02-09 at 8.09.10 AMLots Of Winter Ahead…After a brief weekend thaw, winter’s set to roar back with authority this week.  Morning freezing drizzle and freezing fog should diminish and give way to a mostly cloudy day.  It’ll be much colder than what we enjoyed over the weekend as temperatures hold nearly steady through the day.

Sunshine returns briefly Tuesday, but another fast-moving weather disturbance will bring a light rain shower Wednesday.  As a shot of arctic air drills in here Wednesday night and Thursday, snow showers will blow into town with gusty winds.

A second and even more intense surge of bitter arctic air will pour south Saturday into Sunday.  Dangerously cold air will be accompanied with this surge, including below zero wind chills and more snow showers.

We’re eyeing early next week for the opportunity of a more widespread winter event.  Stay tuned…

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: Less than 0.10″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 1″ – 2″

Bitterly Cold Start, But Moderation On The Way…

Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 7.58.43 AM

“Relaxation” Of The Bitterly Cold Pattern…That forecast package title sure wouldn’t suffice describing the weather outside this morning.  It’s a downright bitter feel, including below zero temperatures throughout north-central Indiana.  Patchy freezing fog and scattered flurries are also with us this morning.  With some sunshine later, we’ll “warm” into the lower 20s this afternoon.  A few flurries may fly tonight as a weak disturbance moves through the region.

Sunshine will be with us to wrap up the work week along with slowly moderating temperatures.  Average highs this time of the year are in the middle 30s so we’ll be closer to average Thursday and Friday- though it’ll likely feel much warmer simply based off just how cold it’s been as of late.  Gusty southwest winds will blow milder air in here briefly Saturday as temperatures climb into the middle 40s.

A cold front will sweep the state Sunday morning with a possible rain shower that’ll quickly transition to scattered snow showers as the colder air filters back into the region.  The next storm system of note arrives early next week.

Upcoming 7-day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: Dusting
  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.10″ – 0.20″

  • Freezing For For Some This Morning
  • Sunny And Very Cold Weather To Close 2014
  • Weekend Wintry Event

Patchy Freezing Fog; Sunny And Cold…Patchy freezing fog has created slick spots on some roadways this morning, particularly just north of the city.  This should burn off relatively quickly this morning and give way to partly cloudy skies this afternoon.  A frosty start will “warm” into the middle 30s later this afternoon.

Stretch Of Dry, But Very Cold Weather…A sprawling arctic high will impact our weather to wrap up 2014 and welcome in 2015.  The result will be an extended stretch of sunny days, but bitterly cold air.  For all of those hosting New Year’s Eve parties this year, we might suggest having extra wood for that cozy fire!

Late Week Storm System…We’ll introduce a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain into your forecast as early as Friday afternoon.  While there are still some issues concerning track and timing, we’ll continue the chance of a wintry mix through the weekend.  Stay tuned.
