Quiet Weather Pattern, But Cooler…

Screen Shot 2015-03-16 at 9.56.35 PMCooler, But Dry Pattern…Monday was an absolutely gorgeous day!  Unfortunately those picture-perfect conditions won’t last as a dry cold front passes early Tuesday.  This will usher in a cooler and breezy St. Patrick’s Day, but nothing too terribly cold.  Dry and chilly conditions remain Wednesday.

A southern storm system will draw close enough Thursday to increase our cloud cover along with a sprinkle or light shower.  This won’t be a big deal.

The next item of note will be another mostly dry frontal passage Saturday night.  Enough southerly flow will be in place Saturday to send temperatures into the lower 60s before the much colder air arrives Saturday night.  This will set us up for a cold second half of the weekend.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: Trace to less than 0.10″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Beautiful Weather!

Screen Shot 2015-03-15 at 8.58.50 AMSun-filled Couple Days…We’re in position for an absolutely beautiful couple days- complete with lots of sunshine and above normal temperatures!  After the frosty start to the morning, temperatures will zoom into the lower 60s this afternoon.  We’ll beat that Monday with a push for 70!  Enjoy, my friends!

A dry cold front will sweep through the region Monday night and set up a colder mid week period.

A weak weather system may deliver light rain to the region Thursday.  We’re not buying the snowy European model solution Thursday for now.

As we move into next weekend, modeling couldn’t disagree more on the outcome.  Some solutions are very cold while others are warm.  For now we’ll split the difference, leaning a little more towards the cold solution as the trough should strengthen next weekend over the Ohio Valley.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.10″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Beautiful Day Before More Rain…

Screen Shot 2015-03-12 at 7.39.09 AMGreat Day Today…Patchy dense fog will give way to sunshine quickly today along with mild temperatures!  Be sure to enjoy as clouds will lower and thicken tonight and give way to a soaker of a Friday.  We anticipate a wash out Friday, complete with heavy rain from late morning into the afternoon and evening.  We may even hear a rumble of thunder Friday evening.  The good news here is that models are trending drier for now Saturday.  We’ll mention morning rain, but sunshine should increase through the second half of the day.  Sunday will be a fantastic day!

A cold front will move through the region Tuesday and could offer up a shower, but most folks should remain dry.  Cooler air will filter in here behind the front, but nothing too out of the ordinary for this time of year.

We target later next week for potentially much colder air…

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.00″ – 1.50″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Brighter Days Ahead And Spring-Like Air!

Screen Shot 2015-03-11 at 8.00.17 AM
Much Needed Vitamin D…After a cloudy, rainy, and gloomy Tuesday, we’ll welcome the sunshine with open arms today and Thursday.  Before we talk about the brighter times ahead, beware of areas of dense fog remaining in place through about the lunch hour.  The combination of a wet ground and overnight clearing led to rather widespread dense fog across the region.  Eventually, the high March sun angle should lead to increasing sunshine as we progress through the day Wednesday.  Thursday will feature lots of sunshine.  Both days will be unseasonably mild, though today’s high will be largely dependent on just how soon we clear things out.

Another slug of Gulf of Mexico moisture will move north and impact the region to wrap up the work week.  Widespread significant rainfall is a good bet Friday into the first half of Saturday.

The weekend won’t be a total washout as sunshine returns Sunday.  Temperatures will remain mild!

Another push of resurgent warmth can be expected Monday as highs zoom into the lower 60s with a southwest flow in place before a dry cold front passes through here Monday night/ Tuesday.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.00″ – 1.50″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Relatively Quiet Week Until Late In The Period…

Screen Shot 2015-03-08 at 9.18.35 AMMostly Quiet Weather For Now…A weak weather system will once again scoot by to our north later today. While this may increase our cloud cover this afternoon and evening, most, if not all, of the precipitation should remain north of our immediate region.  Best chances of seeing a light shower later today will be across the northern third of the state.  We’re back to sunshine Monday!

The first of two weather systems will impact the state Tuesday.  We’ll introduce the chance of a shower across central Indiana, but most of the area will be dry.  More widespread rains will fall across southern and southeastern portions of the state.

The story for mid week remains the delightful weather conditions- dry, sunny, and mild!  We’ll gladly welcome 55-60 temperatures Wednesday and Thursday!

A significant storm system will lift north out of the Gulf of Mexico late week and deliver widespread moderate to heavy rains Friday into Saturday.  Heavy rain is likely to close the week, but model data differs on just how fast the rain will diminish as we move into the weekend.  Stay tuned.

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.00″ – 1.50″

Now We’re Talking…

Screen Shot 2015-03-07 at 10.30.32 AMSpring Fever Anyone?!  A weak weather system is racing through the region this morning.  Clouds and gusty southwest winds are accompanying this, but the air mass is too dry to sustain any sort of precipitation (with the exception of a snow flurry across northern portions of the state).  Sunshine should increase as we progress from morning into the afternoon hours.  Although we’ll remain colder than average this weekend, highs in the lower 40s will feel downright balmy when compared to the bitterly cold times we’ve gone through over the past several weeks.

Early next week will feature a wet weather maker move northeast out of the Deep South, but this should remain east of our region.  We note the European model tries to deliver some light rain Tuesday, but for now we’ll keep our forecast rain-free and dry.

A real surge of “spring fever” will push in here by the middle of the week with highs in the middle 50s Wednesday and upper 50s Thursday (some areas will touch 60 Thursday).  White Leg Warnings will have to be issued, no doubt ;-).

Unfortunately, weather conditions will take a dramatic turn downhill late week into the weekend as a big storm system lifts north out of the Gulf of Mexico.  Colder and raw times are ahead, including a gusty wind-driven rain.  Moderate to heavy rainfall totals appear to be a good bet from 6-7 days out.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.50″ – 1.00″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Light At The End Of The Tunnel…

Screen Shot 2015-03-05 at 7.35.09 AMHang In There; Help Is On The Way…Today and Friday will be incredibly cold for this time of year.  Morning clouds should give way to increasing afternoon sunshine today.  The combination of clear skies, a widespread snowpack, and arctic high pressure overhead will lead to a frigid night tonight.  We officially forecast 2 degrees below zero at IND by Friday morning, but there will be colder reports in outlying areas away from the city.

A moderating trend begins this weekend with sunshine.  A weak weather system will scoot through here Saturday night and early Sunday with a possible light shower or snow shower- not a big deal by any means.

The moderating trend gets even stronger early next week and we forecast highs near 50 Tuesday and pushing 60 Wednesday!  Enjoy!

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: Trace
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Watching For Afternoon Snow…

Screen Shot 2015-03-04 at 7.56.01 AMLight Snow Moves In This Afternoon…While heavy snow will remain to our south, we do forecast light snow to overspread portions of central Indiana later this afternoon into the evening hours. This won’t be a huge deal, but a dusting to 1″ of accumulation will be possible around the city, itself.  Heavier snow will fall downstate.  Heads up if you’re traveling south.

The bigger story will be a MUCH colder air mass that arrives tonight and sets up a frigid Thursday.  We’ll be on record watch Thursday to potentially set a new record cold max.  It’ll be close.  Cold air remains with us to wrap up the work week.

A weak weather system will scoot north of the area Saturday night into Sunday morning, but may be close enough to provide a quick rain or snow shower.

Early next week looks dry with a moderating trend.  We’re expecting a more pronounced warm up for the second half of next week…60s, anyone?!

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.10″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: Dusting to 1″
