Wet Day On Tap…

Screen Shot 2016-03-24 at 9.00.42 AMHighlights:

  • Showers and t-storms
  • Chilly Good Friday
  • Tricky Easter Forecast

Showers And Embedded Thunder Today…Showers and thunderstorms will be with us for the majority of the late morning and afternoon hours before a cold front sweeps through the state tonight and sets up a dry, but much colder time of things for Good Friday.  Locally heavy downpours are a good bet today, including some 1″+ totals across central parts of the state.

The first half of the Easter weekend is looking very nice.  Certainly of the two days, we’d recommend getting that Easter Egg Hunt in on Saturday as clouds will increase Easter Sunday and give way to late day rain.  Modeling isn’t in agreement on the timing of rain Easter, but we’re siding more with the GFS approach for now (earlier arrival when compared to the European).  Stay tuned as we fine tune ;-).

Our “topsy turvy” weather pattern will continue into next week, but we still eye a significant cold front and associated MUCH colder air mass during the first (10) days of April…

The “Ups And Downs” Of Spring…

Screen Shot 2016-03-21 at 9.17.30 AMHighlights:

  • Dry, chilly open to the week
  • Unsettled mid week

Ice Scrapers Needed This Morning…Many Indiana neighborhoods awoke to temperatures in the 20s this morning.  Thankfully, that late March sun angle will help boost temperatures quickly today to around 50 for afternoon highs.

A warm front will lift through the region Tuesday and could spark a shower or two, but most will remain dry.  We’ll turn briefly milder Tuesday and Wednesday before better coverage of showers and embedded thunder arrive on scene Thursday.  This is in association with a cold front that will deliver a quick pop of colder air to close the week, including Good Friday.  There’s the chance enough cold air could catch lingering moisture to allow for a few snow showers late Thursday night before we dry things out completely.

As we look ahead to Easter, another storm system will arrive quickly.  As such, we’re forced to increase rain chances (and coverage) Easter Sunday.

Longer term, indications continue to point towards a rather rude open to April, including well below normal temperatures.

Much Colder Weekend Coming…

Screen Shot 2016-03-16 at 10.12.10 PMHighlights:

  • Mostly dry close to the work week
  • Rain to snow this weekend
  • Quickly warmer early next week

Keep The Jackets Nearby…We’ve enjoyed April and May-like temperatures over the past couple weeks, so you knew we had to make up for the warmth sooner or later.  Thankfully, the pending weekend chill isn’t anything we can’t handle.  That said, it will serve as a rather rude shock to the system for those craving sustained spring.

We’ll wrap up the work week on a mostly dry note (only a spotty shower chance), but we’ll increase overall coverage of shower activity Saturday.  While it’ll be far from a wash out, when you combine the areal increase of shower coverage and much colder air, it may be a day to spend indoors watching basketball (any excuse will work, right? ;-)).  As colder air gets involved, it’s possible rain ends as a wet snow flake, or two.

We’ll turn briefly milder early and middle parts of next week as a warm front passes with showers Tuesday.  Steadier rains arrive Wednesday before colder air returns yet again heading into the Easter weekend.

7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • Snowfall: Trace
  • Rainfall: 0.50″ – 0.75″

Beautiful Weekend; Stormy Week Upcoming…

Screen Shot 2015-04-04 at 11.33.18 AMBeautiful Weather This Weekend Before A Stormy Week…Timing couldn’t be more perfect!  Between the Final Four festivities today and Easter Sunday, weather conditions simply couldn’t be any better!

We’ll begin to reverse things in a rather marked fashion early next week as moisture increases.  Periods of showers and thunderstorms will be with us throughout the week, particularly Tuesday through Thursday.  Waves of stronger storms and heavy rain can be expected.

Championship Monday will feature mostly dry conditions, but clouds will be on the increase and light showers will arrive towards afternoon/ evening.

The focal point for the most significant rain and storms will center itself Tuesday through Thursday and we’ll be more detailed around any severe potential and timing as we get closer.  For now, get outside and enjoy this weather!

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 2.00″ – 2.50″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Friday Morning Thoughts…

1.) First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers go out to our neighbors to our south this morning as a serious flood situation is underway.

Unfortunately, more rain is ahead today and will include our region across central Indiana.  Waves of rain and embedded thunder will continue into the evening.

1

2.) A much colder air mass will arrive this afternoon and evening along with a gusty northwest wind.  Wind chills will fall into the 20s by evening.  Eventually we’ll bottom out in the upper 20s Saturday morning.

3

3.) Easter weekend will feature beautiful weather across the area, thanks to high pressure.  Though it’ll be cold Saturday morning, lots of sunshine will warm us quickly.

2

4.) Wet and stormy times return next week, including multiple days of heavy rain potential and possibly strong to severe thunderstorms.  In short, a very active week is on deck.

Active Is An Understatement…

Screen Shot 2015-04-01 at 7.25.50 AMEnjoy Today; Very Busy Times Coming…Let’s get the easy and good stuff out of the way first- today will feature simply stunning weather conditions across the region.  Wall-to-wall sunshine and temperatures climbing into the middle 60s after a chilly start!  Enjoy!

A warm front will lift through the state late tonight and Thursday morning. This may help ignite scattered thunderstorms early Thursday morning.  We’ll then see a “lull” in the action before additional waves of thunderstorms rumble in during the afternoon and evening.  Some of these storms may reach severe limits with hail and damaging straight line winds of greatest concern.

A secondary area of low pressure will slowly traverse the Ohio Valley Friday and deliver widespread moderate to heavy rain.  As the low scoots to our east, it’ll help pull much colder air into the area.  Temperatures will fall through the day and rain will begin to mix with wet snow Friday night.  While we won’t deal with accumulation here, areas from northern Indiana over to northern Ohio may pick up a light slushy accumulation of snow.

We’ll clear things out just in time for Saturday, but it’ll be a cool and breezy day, especially early. Most of Easter Sunday will also feature sunny and pleasant conditions, but moisture will increase late and we’ll mention the chance of showers by evening.

Early next week is back to the active regime with multiple waves of showers and thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday.  Heavy rainfall and embedded strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 2.5″ – 3.5″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Wet, Stormy, And Warm…

Those are the words to sum up the mid to long range. While we’ll deal with a brief Easter weekend cool down, the overwhelming signals in the mid to long…

Beautiful Through Wednesday Then Turning Busy…

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 9.26.22 PMEnjoy The Dry Time…A fast moving weather maker will scoot by to our northeast Tuesday morning.  This will deliver rain and snow for our friends to our east.  We’ll enjoy being on the southwest side of the track of this system and as a result we can expect lots of sunshine and seasonably warm temperatures.  Wednesday will also feature lots of sunshine.

A new storm system will approach Thursday and deliver showers and thunderstorms into the picture.  Some of the rain may be heavy at times.  Additionally, we think another wave of low pressure will keep a rather steady rain in play Friday, as well.  Temperatures will fall through the day Friday.  As of now, it appears as if it’ll be a rather damp and raw close to the work week.

An early sprinkle or snow flurry is possible Saturday, but most of the day will be dry.  Easter Sunday will dawn dry, but moisture will increase during the latter portion of the day.  We’ll introduce showers into the picture Sunday afternoon.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.25″ – 1.50″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″

Active And Warmer…

Screen Shot 2015-03-29 at 8.24.13 AMEvening Rain…The day has started unseasonably cold and sunny, but changes are in the offing later this afternoon.  Breezy south winds will help temperatures moderate from the very cold morning readings. In fact, if we hang onto the sunshine long enough, south winds will combine with the extra sun to allow temperatures to rise close to 50 degrees.  As it is, we anticipate increasing afternoon clouds followed by showers arriving towards mid to late afternoon. These showers may even be accompanied by an embedded rumble of thunder. Rainfall amounts won’t be heavy and most can expect to accumulate between 0.10″ to less than 0.25″.

We’ll enjoy a nice stretch of sunshine and moderating temperatures Monday through Wednesday.  A clipper system should stay well north of our region Tuesday, but if your travels take you into northeastern portions of the state or to Ohio, expect a few showers.

The next storm system of note here will arrive Thursday. A cold front will deliver showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon.

Another area of low pressure will deal a chilly rain to Indiana to wrap up the work week, but the good news in that sunshine appears to be the rule as we head into the special Easter weekend.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 1.00″ – 1.50″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: 0.00″
