Frosty Start…Frost is pretty widespread across central Indiana this morning.  Certainly grab the coat on the way out the door!  Otherwise, morning sunshine will give way to increasingly cloudy skies during the afternoon and a few sprinkles are possible by evening.  Best chances of a heavier shower (still nothing of significance) will occur across southwestern portions of the state.

Not Feeling Like Halloween…Reinforcing cold air will pour into the state on howling north and northwest winds Friday.  After an early morning high, temperatures will fall through the day and light rain/ mist will begin to transition to light snow as nightfall approaches.  Trick-or-treaters- BUNDLE UP!  In addition to developing light snow/ flurries, winds will be gusting in excess of 30 MPH, creating wind chill values in the 20s for the evening.

Additionally, as the early season arctic air pours over the relatively warm Lake Michigan waters, we’ll notice a couple bands of enhanced snow rates that may extend into north-central Indiana Friday evening.  These snow bands will be very localized and thin in nature, but don’t be surprised to hear a couple reports of brief heavier bursts of snow from locations that get under these localized bands.  While our ground temperatures are still relatively warm, some areas will likely accumulate a dusting to “coating” of snow Halloween night.

Killing Hard Freeze…A killing hard freeze will occur both Saturday and Sunday mornings as temperatures drop into the upper 20s.  Partly cloudy skies can be expected during the day, but that early November sun won’t do much to help warm us up as we only reach the lower 40s Saturday and mid/ upper 40s Sunday- 15+ degrees below normal levels.

Next Wet Weather Maker…Our next storm system will deliver rain Tuesday into Wednesday.  After a sunny open to the work week, clouds and rain will quickly increase Tuesday into Wednesday.  We’ll have to fine tune rainfall amounts as time draws closer.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.50″ – 1.00″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: Dusting
