We’re locked into a very transitional weather pattern. While we have a few days of warmth and humidity ahead, we’re already eyeing the next cool, refreshing period through mid and late week. Don’t get used to it, however, as another warm, humid stretch awaits post Memorial Day, itself.
Week 1
The period opens with a cold front moving through the region which will keep things active and unsettled through Tuesday evening with a much drier and cooler stretch developing midweek. Chances of severe weather are alive and kicking Monday and Tuesday, particularly during the afternoon and evening both days.
Damaging winds are of greatest concern today with all modes of severe weather possible Tuesday as the front settles through the state.
A widespread 0.75″ to 1″ of rain is likely with locally heavier amounts expected across the region by Wednesday morning.
After a warm and humid open to the week, temperatures return to the 40s by midweek for overnight lows.
We’re also continuing to keep very close eyes on the moisture return and associated unsettled times and note a more aggressive wet trend with today’s data. We’ll monitor closely to see if consistency is established, but may need to bring showers and thunderstorms back into the picture as early as Friday/ Saturday, at least in scattered fashion. Scattered storms will remain a staple of our forecast for the big race day and Memorial Day, itself. Please also note there will be plenty of dry time throughout this period and we don’t see any need to cancel those outdoor plans. Just have a back up plan B if necessary while storms pass.
Week 2
A warm, moist environment is expected through the balance of the Week 2 timeframe, including multiple chances of unsettled weather through the period. We’ll monitor prospects of additional opportunities for strong to severe storms, but it’s far too early to be able to get specific. Needless to say, above normal rainfall is expected to close out the month and as we get set to open June.
