Wintry Mix For Some…Recall we mentioned last week that we’d have to keep close tabs on the week 1 (this week) situation as the pattern looked to present challenges (cold highs to the north and an active storm track south).  That’s certainly the case as today is a perfect example of model data struggling on the northern extent of the precipitation and the associated combination with colder air moving south.  This morning we’ve had reports of sleet in the Avon and Fortville communities.

We’ll forecast cloudy skies today with best chances of light wintry mix impacting the I-70 corridor and points south.  Another little “ripple” of energy will move along the frontal boundary south of the region and provide the chance of a wintry mix this afternoon into tonight.

Tuesday and Wednesday will turn quieter after the chance of morning flurries Tuesday morning.

Late Week System…We’ll keep close eyes on another storm system Thursday.  Once again, the fine line between liquid, freezing, and frozen precipitation forms will lie across our immediate region.  For now we’ll simply forecast a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and rain Thursday afternoon switching over to a cold rain Friday.  Stay tuned.  And deviation south or north will have an impact on precipitation type.

Half And Half…The opening to the new weekend looks to be a wet one as an active storm track continues.  We’ll then introduce drier air Sunday.

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

  • 7-Day Rainfall Forecast: 0.50″ – 0.75″
  • 7-Day Snowfall Forecast: Dusting

Warm And Windy For Colts Vs. Redskins…

Colts v. Redskins Forecast Prepared For:

The Indiana Sports Report

11.30.14

Happy game day Colts fans!  A strong southwesterly air flow is creating windy conditions for tailgating this morning, but the upside is that temperatures are in the lower 60s!  A cold front has it’s eyes set on the region and will arrive this afternoon and evening.  This will lead to better afternoon rain chances and a MUCH colder feel as we progress through the evening.  Visit IndyWx.com for “Indy’s Behind The Scenes Weather” all season long!  Go Colts!

Milder Air, But Rain Chances Increase…Many will welcome a milder southwesterly air flow this weekend.  While this will serve to help give temperatures a significant boost from what we’ve dealt with practically the whole month of November, it’ll also provide increasingly cloudy skies and the chance of sprinkles/ light rain showers by afternoon and evening.

Sunday will be even milder as highs reach towards the 60 degree mark.  A cold front will approach the area Sunday afternoon and evening and provide a better chance of showers and colder air to open the new work week.

Have The Dramamine Handy…We’re in the beginning stages of a pattern change that’ll promote at least “attempts” of milder air in the coming 7-10 days.  That said, cold highs will remain across the northern tier and present challenges in both the temperature forecast, but also precipitation timing in the back half of this forecast period.  In the longer term we want to be very clear that signals suggest mid and late December feature a cold and wintry pattern returning.

As we move into the mid and late week stretch plan for possible changes.  There are challenges that abound, but for now our best meteorological take will feature increasing clouds Wednesday with light showers arriving by evening.  This would be followed by steadier rains Thursday before drier and colder air returns to wrap up the work week.  Stay tuned; it’s a tough pattern, as is usually the case during the transitional seasons.

News And Notes: Bill will be on WIBC with Ray Steele this morning around 7:30.  Be sure and tune in to hear a little weather chit-chat and a lot of talk about tonight’s Iron Bowl… War Eagle!

Upcoming 7-Day Precipitation Forecast:

Happy Thanksgiving…We want to wish each and every one of you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving!  Enjoy the day with family and friends.  We’re incredibly thankful and blessed for your support and to be able to provide you with the latest weather forecasts and discussions throughout central Indiana.  While the morning could offer a few flurries or scattered snow showers, most of the day will be dry and cold.  Average highs are in the upper 40s this time of year.  We’ll fall far below that this Thanksgiving.

Moderating Into The Weekend…Black Friday will continue the cold theme along with a few snow flurries as a weak weather system scoots through the region.  Shoppers will certainly want to bundle up as they tackle those Christmas lists.  That said, the theme of the Thanksgiving weekend will be one that features moderating temperatures.  The milder southwesterly air flow will also serve to provide increasingly cloudy conditions along with pesky light rain late Saturday into Sunday.

Challenging Forecast…A challenging forecast is ahead early next week as cold highs to the north combine with resurgent milder air across the south.  The battle ground lies across the Mid West and Ohio Valley region and we’ll have to remain on our toes for potential changes.  For now we’re going with a colder feel Monday (falling temperatures after a high in the wee morning hours), cold and dry Tuesday, and milder/ wet Wednesday.  Stay tuned.

News and Notes: We’re very excited to let you know that Bill will be joining Ray Steele on Weekend Indiana Saturday morning to talk a little weather and a lot about the Iron Bowl!  Be sure to tune into WIBC 6a-8a Saturday.
